Elin McCoy, the wine and spirits columnist for Bloomberg News, has written an impressively balanced and serious book detailing Robert Parker’s remarkable “rise to power”. The story of how a patent lawyer in Monkville, MD changed the world of wine by inventing a 100-point rating scale is fascinating. McCoy’s “just the facts, please” approach documents what happened cleanly and in a way that I simply couldn’t put the book down. It’s one of those stories that you couldn’t make up.
