L’Anfora: Sea Specialties on the Aeolian Island of Lipari

Hidden this tiny vicolo, out of the flow of tourists, L’Anfora serves fresh seafood in an elegant setting. I went for lunch with a friend on a weekday in June, before the summer crowds. No one else was in the restaurant.

Each dish was presented beautifully.

Tuna Tartare.

All served in a modern but characteristic dining room. (It was still too cool for the outdoor terrace.)

Owner/Chef Maurizio Cipicchia was on hand, standing under the antique amphora, which ancient islanders used for storing oil and wine. (The wine list is long, focusing on Sicilian wines but with many others as well.)

Since Lipari is the largest of the Aeolian Islands with the most stores and services and the closest to the mainland, it is by far the busiest. The town and the restaurant were pleasant on the cool, quiet, cloudy day that I was there, but I would not want to visit in the madness of the high tourist time (July and August).
