When Black is White in Tuscany

Charlotte Horton, the Castello Potentino where she lives and her stunning wines call me back to the Monte Amiata in Southern Tuscany again and again.

On my most recent visit, she talked to me about her newest wine: a Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) vinified white. In Champagne, it would be known as a “Blanc de Noir” (White made from Black).

We had Sunday lunch and tasted all of Charlotte’s wines. The new Pinot Nero doesn’t yet have a label. Piropo is 100% Pinot Nero, my absolute favorite. Sacromante is Sangiovese, the traditional grape of the area and Balaxus is a blend of Alicante and Sangiovese.
