Vineyard Hideaway in Valdobbiadene (Veneto)

I woke up to this view when I stayed in the Sunset Room of the Agriturismo Due Carpini in Valdobbiadene, the tiny town at the heart of Prosecco sparkling wine production. It is an hour northwest of Venice in the Italian region of the Veneto. (See recent Prosecco posts Bele Casel and Case Coste Piane).

The wine bar/restaurant downstairs serves local dishes by the season. (When I was there: pastry with porcini mushrooms and smoked ricotta, tagliatelle with orange and duck sauce, tagliolini with squash, leeks and sausage, roasted rabbit and beef tagliata. Patio seating overlooks the pool in warm weather.

There is also a small spa and hiking trails through the vineyards. One trails goes virtually straight up for this view of the B and B from above (lower right corner).

I hiked up to see the Osteria (rustic restaurant) named “Osteria Senz’Oste” which translates to “Restaurant with no Host”

It started when the owner started leaving bottles of local Prosecco with salami that his family made on the counter in case friends came by when he wasn’t in. Word passed around and locals as well as tourists stopped in. It works by an honor system where you leave money for what you consume.
